How to get candle wax out of carpet

Restore your carpet's appearance with these couple of simple steps.

Avoid harsh chemicals and protect your carpet fibers. The steps to remove wax are fairly simple. So keep it gentle to avoid damaging your carpet.

1. Harden the wax for easier removal

Apply ice cubes in a sealed plastic bag. Freezing the wax will make it possible to gently chip the hardened wax from the carpet fiber.

Another even more efficient method than ice cubes is to apply a Freeze Spray (see product below).

Avoid spreading softened wax. If the wax becomes soft while you're working on the spot, re-freeze the wax before proceeding.

2. Remove the wax from carpet fibers

Once the wax is hardened, use a dull butter knife or spoon to carefully break up the hardened wax. Be very careful not to become too aggressive with the wax spot and tear at the fiber. Otherwise pile distortion could occur. A gentle approach is the rule of thumb.

Repeat the freezing and scraping process to remove any stubborn residue.

Vacuum loose wax remnants with a shop style wet/dry vac. Do not use an upright vacuum with a brush roller, as the agitation will soften the wax and can work it deeper into the carpet fiber.

3. Lift any leftover stains using a safe spot cleaning solution

Apply a safe spot cleaner (like Encap-Spot below) and gently blot the spot with microfiber or terrycloth. This can be helpful for removing any paraffin residue as well as coloration from the wax.
